No caste based mostly census besides SCs, STs since Independence: Centre

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai stated some political events and some organisations have requested to gather caste particulars within the forthcoming Census.

NEW DELHI: The central authorities has not enumerated caste-wise inhabitants aside from Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) within the Census since independence, the Lok Sabha was knowledgeable on Tuesday.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai stated some political events and some organisations have requested to gather caste particulars within the forthcoming Census.

He stated within the Census, the castes and tribes that are particularly notified as Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) as per the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, as amended infrequently, are enumerated.

“The government of India has not enumerated caste-wise population other than SCs and STs in Census since independence,” he stated, replying to a written query.
