‘Nashik bandh’ name by Maratha outfits in opposition to police lathi-charge in Jalna will get blended response

NASHIK: The ‘bandh’ name given by some Maratha organisations in Nashik district of Maharashtra to protest in opposition to the current police lathi-charge on the agitators demanding quota for the group in Jalna, evoked a blended response on Sunday.

The bandh name was given by ‘Sakal Maratha Samaj’ and ‘Maratha Kranti Morcha’.

On Friday, an agitation searching for reservation for the Maratha group turned violent at Antarwali Sarathi village in Jalna district, resulting in a number of folks, together with dozens of police personnel, getting injured.

“People from across the district took part in the bandh voluntarily. We did not force them to participate,” Swarajya Party state convener Karan Gaykar.

“State Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis should take the responsibility for the Jalna lathi-charge incident and resign. The rulers should not dare to do injustice with the Maratha community,” he stated.

In view of the bandh name, police saved strict vigil in foremost areas throughout town.

Meanwhile, a ‘rasta roko’ (street blockade) agitation over the problem was staged on the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Chowk on Vani-Saputara Road within the morning.
