Maharashtra: BJP warns of approaching HC over Congress chief’s anti-PM remarks

NAGPUR: The BJP’s Nagpur unit on Friday mentioned it should strategy the Bombay High Court if the police don’t apply further IPC sections within the case towards Congress chief Sheikh Hussain for his alleged objectionable remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A BJP delegation led by former Maharashtra minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule met with Nagpur police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, demanding that non-bailable sections be utilized within the case towards Hussain.

Hussain was booked by the Gittikhadan police in Nagpur on Tuesday evening for allegedly making derogatory remarks towards the prime minister throughout a rally on Monday, following which native BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to DCP Zone I Dr Sandip Pakhale demanding motion towards him.

An offence beneath sections 294 and 504 of the IPC was registered towards Hussain on the premise of a grievance lodged by Vinod Damodar Kanhare, the president of the BJP’s West Nagpur unit.

The Congress chief was arrested and launched on bail on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, Bawankule claimed that the Nagpur police had registered an FIR beneath weaker and bailable sections of the IPC.

“We have come to the Nagpur police demanding that they should slap additional IPC sections against Hussain. We will give three days’ time to the police or will approach the high court,” the BJP chief mentioned.

He additional demanded that Congress leaders current on dais throughout Hussain’s speech be made co-accused within the case.

When requested about BJP chief Nupur Sharma’s latest remarks about Prophet Mohammad and if she shouldn’t be arrested for her assertion, Bawankule mentioned that the social gathering had taken strict motion towards her and offences have additionally registered wherever complaints have been lodged towards her.

Meanwhile, Nagpur police commissioner Amitesh Kumar mentioned the police had adopted correct process whereas registering the case towards Hussain.

The Congress chief had obtained bail, because the sections have been bailable.

Besides, the police are investigating the matter, the senior official mentioned, denying that there was any political strain within the case.

Meanwhile, the Youth Congress raised objections to Bawankule and different BJP leaders addressing the media within the assembly room of the Nagpur police commissionerate.

Youth Congress nationwide secretary Ajit Singh mentioned this act of the BJP leaders was unlawful.

The BJP delegation met the press after submitting a memorandum to the Nagpur police commissioner, Singh claimed.

It will appear as if the police just isn’t neutral and was supporting a celebration, the Youth Congress chief alleged.
