LGBT activist held for sexual assault in Goa, launched on bail

A 28-year-old French lady has accused LGBTQI activist, poet and psychologist Divya Dureja (27) of sexually assaulting her in a resort in North Goa on February 23. Dureja, who was arrested following the girl’s grievance filed on the Pernem Police Station, was launched on bail by a neighborhood courtroom final week.
According to the sufferer’s grievance, Dureja stored her in her resort room for over four-and-a-half hours with out her consent and penetrated her along with her fingers. North Goa SP Utkrisht Prasoon stated Dureja was arrested primarily based on the sufferer’s grievance. He stated the sufferer’s assertion will likely be recorded earlier than a Justice of the Peace underneath Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
According to the police, the sufferer, a yoga coach, had arrived in Goa in January. The sufferer has alleged that Dureja invited her to her room in a resort in North Goa and assaulted her.
In the FIR filed on the Pernem Police Station on February 24, Dureja has been charged underneath Section 354 (prison assault on lady with the intention of outraging her modesty) and Section 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC.
Delhi-based Dureja is an LGBTQI activist, psychologist and poet and has spoken on numerous platforms in help of the LGBTQI group. Dureja remained unavailable for remark. Messages despatched to her by The Indian Express remained unanswered.
