Kolkata: Workers fall ailing as poisonous gasoline leaks in chilly drink manufacturing unit

KOLKATA: Several employees of a chilly drink manufacturing unit positioned in Kamalgazi space within the southern fringes of Kolkata fell ailing following leakage of poisonous gasoline on Monday, police mentioned.

Two firefighters, who went there to rescue the employees additionally fell ailing, a senior police officer, mentioned.

“We evacuated the workers of the factory and people of the nearby locality and trying to spot what the problem is. Going by the pungent smell of the gas it seems to be Ammonia. We have a team of doctors with us,” the officer advised PTI.

Ammonia, a primary constructing block for ammonium nitrate fertilizer, is irritating and corrosive.

Exposure to excessive concentrations of ammonia within the air causes instant burning of the nostril, throat and respiratory tract.

This could cause bronchiolar and alveolar oedema, and airway destruction leading to respiratory misery.
