It’s official: Gujarat authorities scraps Tapi-Narmada river-linking mission

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat authorities has formally scrapped the Par-Tapi-Narmada river-linking mission, which had attracted the wrath of tribal neighborhood within the state. At a press convention in Surat on Saturday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel introduced his authorities’s choice to junk the mission, “respecting the sentiments of tribals”.

The BJP authorities’s transfer comes after Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s current announcement in tribal-dominated Dahod district that “the project will be cancelled once the Congress forms government in Gujarat”. 

All political events in Gujarat – ruling BJP, opposition Congress and new-entrant AAP – have been attempting to woo the tribal neighborhood within the state. Announcing the cancellation of the celebrated mission, which had discovered point out within the Union Budget, CM Patel stated his authorities has been implementing a number of schemes for the good thing about the tribals. 

“There is resentment towards the project due to some misunderstandings among the tribal brothers and sisters. After the announcement of any scheme by the Central government, the approval of the state concerned is sought and only then it proceeds with the project. The Gujarat government has not given its approval for this scheme and has decided that this scheme will not be taken forward,” the CM stated.

The Gujarat authorities had earlier introduced within the Assembly that the mission could be “postponed”. However, apprehending political prices, the state authorities has now scrapped the whole mission. Congress MLA and tribal chief Anant Patel has demanded a “white paper” on cancelling the mission.
