Italy will prosecute marines who killed two Indian fishermen: SC

The Supreme Court on Monday dominated that the Italian authorities will prosecute the 2 Italian Marines, who had gunned down two Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala in February 2012, as per worldwide arbitral award.
The apex courtroom additional mentioned that it’s going to go an order relating to disbursal of the Rs 10 crore compensation paid by the Italian authorities to the household of the fishermen on June 15.

The compensation is a mutually agreed quantity between India and Italy when it comes to the award by a world tribunal. The Supreme Court had earlier mentioned that Rs 4 crore every out of the compensation will go to the subsequent of kin of the 2 fishermen whereas Rs 2 crore will likely be given to the proprietor of the fishing vessel during which they have been travelling.
On February 15, 2012, two Indian fishermen coming back from a fishing expedition close to Lakshadweep islands onboard fishing vessel St Antony have been gunned down by two Italian marines on board oil tanker Enrica Lexie. The incident occurred round 20 nautical miles off the coast of Kerala. Shortly after the incident, the Indian Coast Guard intercepted Enrica Lexie and detained the 2 Italian marines— Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre.
