As the first-ever treaty to ban nuclear weapons entered into pressure, India stated on Friday that it doesn’t help the treaty and shall not be certain by any of the obligations which will come up from it.
The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was permitted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017, however not one of the 9 international locations recognized or believed to own nuclear weapons supported it and neither did the NATO alliance. The treaty got here into pressure on Friday.
In an announcement, the Ministry of External Affairs stated India continues to connect excessive precedence and stays dedicated to common, non-discriminatory and verifiable nuclear disarmament.
“As far as the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) is concerned, India did not participate in the negotiations on the TPNW and has consistently made it clear that it will not become a party to the Treaty,” the MEA stated.
India doesn’t help the treaty and shall not be certain by any of the obligations which will come up from it, it stated.

India believes that the treaty doesn’t represent or contribute to the event of customary worldwide regulation, nor does it set any new requirements or norms, the assertion stated.
The MEA said that India reiterates its dedication to the aim of a nuclear-weapon-free world.
India believes that this aim will be achieved via a step-by-step course of underwritten by a common dedication, and an agreed international and non-discriminatory multilateral framework, as outlined within the nation’s working paper titled ‘Nuclear Disarmament’, submitted to the UN General Assembly and the Conference on Disarmament.
In this regard, India helps the graduation of negotiations on a complete Nuclear Weapons Convention within the Conference on Disarmament, which is the world’s single multilateral disarmament negotiating discussion board engaged on the premise of consensus, the MEA stated.
India stands able to work with all UN member states in the direction of the target of a world freed from nuclear weapons, it stated.
