In UP’s Saharanpur, Dalit man assaulted, moustache shaved off

Weeks after an argument, six individuals in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district allegedly assaulted a Dalit man and obtained his moustache shaved off at a barbershop, calling it an unique image of satisfaction for his or her group, the police stated on Friday.

“This was an attempt on the part of the accused to create tensions,” stated Rajneesh Kumar, CO Deoband. “The FIR has been filed under appropriate sections against the accused and teams have been formed for their arrest. We have apprehended the barber in whose shop the incident took place.”
The sufferer, Rajat, has alleged that the accused individuals threatened him with dire penalties and made casteist remarks. He filed the grievance towards Neeraj Rana, Satyam Rana, Mokam Rana, Rupantu Rana, Monty Rana and Sandeep Rana, moreover Rajendra the barber. All of them hail from Badgaon village, stated the police.

The FIR says the accused cornered and assaulted Rajat when he was passing by the village on Monday morning, drew sharp weapons, and marched him to Rajendra’s barbershop within the neighborhood. The barber, in the meantime, has advised the police that he was unaware of the accused individuals’ intentions. He claimed he merely did what he was requested to do.
The FIR has been filed underneath IPC Sections 147 (rioting), 323 (punishment for inflicting harm), 504 (intentional insult) in addition to related sections of the SC/ST Act.
