IAF jets scrambled after ‘bomb menace’ on Iran-China flight over Indian airspace

NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets have been scrambled to intercept an plane with its origin in Iran and headed to China, which was transferring in direction of New Delhi airspace.

According to sources, inputs have been acquired at 9:20 am by Delhi Police a couple of bomb menace on board a Mahan Air flight headed to Guangzhou in China from Tehran in Iran.

It triggered an alert and permission was not granted for the aircraft to land in Delhi and the aircraft was instructed by Air Traffic Control (ATC) to divert to Jaipur. Reportedly the pilot refused to divert the aircraft following which Indian Air Force jets have been scrambled to intercept and escort the aircraft.

The plane was headed to China as its last vacation spot, had entered Indian airspace when the alert from Indian Air Traffic Control was shared with the aircraft. Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fighter jets from Punjab and Jodhpur airbases have been scrambled to intercept the aircraft, sources informed ANI.

Data from Filghtradar24 confirmed the aircraft decreasing altitude over the Delhi-Jaipur airspace for a short interval earlier than it was seen making its method out of Indian airspace.

According to ATC sources, Mahan Air requested for quick touchdown at Delhi airport however Delhi ATC directed it to move to Jaipur Airport. The pilots of the Iranian provider didn’t achieve this and ultimately left Indian airspace.

The nature of the bomb menace continues to be unclear. The aircraft was seen persevering with on its flight path in direction of China.
