Held for posts on CM, TN man booked underneath Goonda Act

Chennai police on Friday invoked the Goonda Act towards social media commentator Kishore Okay Swamy, who was arrested from his residence on June 14 for allegedly defamatory posts towards Chief Minister M Okay Stalin and the veteran DMK leaders, late CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi.
Swamy, who’s a vocal supporter of BJP-RSS camps and the earlier AIADMK authorities, was despatched to judicial custody until June 28 shortly after his arrest, the place he was arrested once more in two extra complaints of harassment. On Friday, the Chennai metropolis police commissionerate invoked the Goonda Act towards him on suggestions from the Central Crime Branch.

Police stated there have been a number of complaints of harassment towards Swamy. He has been arrested twice earlier – in October 2019 on fees of abusive posts on girls journalists, and in July 2020, for related fees of harassing girls. He was launched on bail in each instances.
Besides particular person complaints towards Swamy’s posts focusing on girls, a petition filed by Tamil Nadu Women Journalists Forum earlier than the then Chief Minister Edappadi Okay Palaniswami in 2020 stated Swamy had been focusing on girls journalists on Twitter.

“He was already booked under Sections 153, 505(1)(b) and 505(1)(c) and was remanded in judicial custody till June 28,” stated an officer. After his arrest on June 14, BJP state vice chairman, Okay Annamalai, had tweeted in Swamy’s assist saying the arrest was a transfer to suppress freedom of speech and expression.
