Gujarat: Two extra minor tremors hit Amreli, third in two days

AMRELI: Two minor tremors of three.4 and three.1 magnitudes had been recorded in 24 hours in Gujarat’s Amreli district, taking the variety of such earthquakes within the space to a few up to now two days, an official from the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) stated on Friday.

There was no report of any lack of life or injury to property, district officers stated.

An earthquake of magnitude 3.1, the newest of the three, was recorded at Mitiyala village in Savarkundla taluka at 11.40 am on Friday.

It was 43 km south-south east of Amreli metropolis, stated the ISR official.

At 11.35 pm on Thursday, a tremor of three.4 was recorded at Khambha, 44 km south-south east of the district headquarters, which is within the Saurashtra area.

Earlier on Thursday morning, a 3.1 tremor was recorded at Mitiyala village, at a depth of 6.2 km, stated the official from the Gandhinagar-based ISR.

On February 19 too, the Khambha space had seen a 2.2 tremor.

Gujarat’s Kutch district, additionally positioned within the Saurashtra area, was devastated by an earthquake in January 2001 during which 13,800 folks had been killed and one other 1.67 lakh had been injured.

The earthquake brought about extreme injury to properties in varied cities and villages of the district.
