Gujarat: Mild tremor hits Kutch; fifth seismic exercise in a single month

AHMEDABAD: A tremor of three.2 magnitude hit Gujarat’s Kutch district on Sunday, however there was no report of any casualty or property injury, officers stated.

The tremor was recorded at 12.49 am, with its epicentre one km west-south-west of Rapar in Kutch district, at a depth of 12.2 km, the Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) stated.

This is the fifth tremor of magnitude 3 or extra to be recorded within the district within the final one month, as per the ISR knowledge.

The 4 earlier tremors have been reported close to Rapar, Dudhai and Lakhpat cities within the district, in keeping with the ISR.

As per a district administration official, there was no report of any casualty or injury to property.

Kutch district is situated in a really excessive threat seismic zone and low depth tremors/earthquakes repeatedly happen there.

On January 26, 2001, an enormous earthquake had jolted the district, killing 13,800 individuals and injuring almost 1.67 lakh others.
