Government misled prime courtroom on consultations: Congress

THE CONGRESS Wednesday accused the federal government of getting “misled” the Supreme Court on pre-legislative consultations it claimed to have held with varied stakeholders, particularly farmers’ unions, on the three farm legal guidelines.
Addressing a press convention, Congress chief Abhishek Singhvi stated the Ministry of Agriculture had final month in reply to RTI queries searching for particulars of the consultations — together with the dates, checklist of individuals who attended the conferences and the names of farmer teams – held previous to the promulgation of the ordinance in June had stated that it “does not hold any record in this matter”.
On the opposite hand, Singhvi stated the federal government earlier this week informed the Supreme Court in an affidavit that it desires to dispel “the erroneous notion that the protestors have peddled that the central government and Parliament never had any consultative process or examination of issues by any Committee before passing of the laws in question”.

He stated the federal government in its affidavit has not given info or particulars relating to pre-legislative consultations however stated “the legislation are not hurriedly made but are a result of two decades of deliberations”.
