Goa caps gatherings to 200 in open areas, 100 indoors as circumstances shoot up

WITH CASES of Covid-19 on the rise, the Goa authorities on Tuesday determined to cap the scale of public gatherings throughout the state permitting not more than 200 folks in open areas and 50-100 folks at indoor gatherings.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant mentioned that Covid care centres within the state had been activated once more and the federal government was augmenting its capability by including beds and buying stadia in Fatorda and Taleigaon.
The resolution was taken in a gathering of the State Disaster Management Committee led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday night.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane mentioned, “There are directions to have less than 200 people in open spaces and less than 100 for weddings, functions etc. The Chief Minister has given directions to the Home Ministry and the police to strictly implement (these).”
On the scarcity of beds on the Goa Medical College, which compelled some sufferers to be handled on stretchers, Rane mentioned that 300 beds can be added to the South Goa district hospital. “There are 10 Covid-19 patients on stretchers (at the Goa Medical College and Hospital). We have no beds. We have directed them to be shifted to the South Goa district hospital,” he mentioned.

Rane mentioned that the federal government will requisition the stadium in Taleigao and the ESI Hospital in South Goa will turn into a Covid Care Centre.
“People also need to follow safety protocols. Despite imposing fines, people still crowd at several places,” the minister added.
