Fire breaks out at Howrah paint manufacturing unit, 18 injured

SHIBPUR: At least 18 individuals suffered accidents as a serious fireplace broke out at a paint manufacturing unit in West Bengal’s Howrah district on Wednesday afternoon, a hearth division official mentioned.

Two of these injured are in “serious” situation, having sustained 80 per cent burns, he mentioned, including that the blaze was first noticed on the manufacturing unit of Berger Paints in Shibpur round 1.40 pm.

The paints main, nonetheless, said that 21 of its staff sustained accidents of their try and douse the hearth. The reason behind the hearth is being probed, however preliminary investigation factors to a brief circuit in an AC unit.

The incident occurred close to the exit gate with manufacturing space remaining utterly unaffected, the discharge mentioned.

Eight fireplace tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flames. According to the hearth division official, the scenario was beneath management. Buildings adjoining to the manufacturing unit have been evacuated as a part of the firefighting operations, he mentioned.

“Workers were inside the factory when the fire started. While some managed to flee, at least 18 sustained injuries. Since it is a paint unit, there were several inflammable items,” the official added.

State well being division sources mentioned that two critically injured people have been admitted to state-run SSKM Hospital, whereas the opposite 10 are present process therapy at CMRI hospital.
