NEW DELHI: Several parliamentarians on Tuesday demanded in Lok Sabha that the pre-matric scholarship and Maulana Azad Fellowship for minority college students be restored, saying how will the nation progress if the minority communities are left behind.

The Maulana Azad Fellowship for minority college students pursuing larger schooling has been scrapped whereas the federal government’s pre-matric scholarship for them will not apply to college students from Class 1 to Class 8.

Several Muslim MPs raised the demand of bringing again the scholarships.

During a dialogue on the supplementary calls for for grants, BSP MP Danish Ali stated the pre-matric scholarship and Maulana Azad Fellowship should be restored.

“Everyone needs to be taken along for the prosperity of the country. How can you leave minorities behind and prosper?” AIMIM MP Syed Imitiaz Jaleel additionally raised the demand, asking how will minority college students research and progress if this fellowship is stopped.

Raising the problem of the schooling of minorities, Samajwadi Party member S T Hasan stated the federal government ought to restart the scholarships it has finished away with just like the Maulana Azad National Fellowship.
