Delhi Police provides safety to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, her household

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has supplied safety to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and her household after an FIR was registered on a criticism that she was getting loss of life threats over her controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad, officers mentioned on Tuesday.

She had requested the police to supply safety citing harassment and threats she had been receiving. “Sharma and her family have been provided police security after she alleged that she has been receiving threats and was being harassed over her remarks,” an official mentioned.

The BJP on Sunday suspended Sharma and expelled its Delhi unit media head Naveen Kumar Jindal because the row over their alleged derogatory remarks in opposition to Prophet Mohammad escalated with protests from some Muslim nations.

Amid demonstrations by Muslim teams and the sharp response from nations like Kuwait, Qatar and Iran, the BJP issued a press release asserting that it respects all religions and strongly denounces insults of any spiritual persona.

Sharma’s feedback, made throughout a TV debate practically 10 days in the past, and Jindal’s now-deleted tweets sparked a Twitter pattern calling for a boycott of Indian merchandise in some nations.

After the motion, Sharma unconditionally withdrew her controversial assertion and claimed that her feedback have been a response to “continuous insult and disrespect towards our Mahadev (Lord Shiva).”

Police mentioned on May 28, its cyber cell unit obtained a criticism from Sharma in opposition to numerous individuals about loss of life threats and focused hatred.

Based on this criticism, an FIR was registered beneath IPC sections 506 (felony intimidation), 507 (Criminal intimidation by nameless communication) and 509 (Word, gesture or act meant to insult the modesty of a girl) in opposition to unknown individuals.

“During the probe, another complaint was received from Sharma against certain persons promoting enmity. Following this, Section 153A of IPC was added to the case. “Notices have been despatched to Twitter Inc. and a reply from it’s awaited. Investigation into the case is underway,” the senior police official mentioned.
