In the midst of all the steps being taken to fight the corona virus infection in India, the government constituted a committee of scientists, which says that the contagious disease is expected to be contained by February 2021.

The committee predicted this on the basis of computer models and said that there will be no more than 16 million cases of Kovid-19 in the country. However, the committee has also not ruled out the possibility of a second wave of corona virus infection and emphasized that there is a need to continue protective measures to prevent this.

The committee termed the lockdown announced in March as effective for dealing with the epidemic, saying that if the lockdown had not been implemented, the number of people killed by corona virus infection would have risen to over 2.5 million by August this year . According to the committee, the countrywide lockdown is no longer required and needs to be implemented in limited and affected areas only as per requirement.

The committee was constituted by V. Paul, Member, NITI Aayog and Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government K.K. It was done in March under the chairmanship of Vijayaraghavan. Its members also have experts from IIT and Indian Council of Medical Research.

When asked about the storage and distribution of the vaccine to get rid of the corona virus infection, the head of the committee Paul said that India has a large number of cold storages and the number can be increased if needed. When the vaccine is available, there are sufficient resources to supply it and make it available to the public.
