A crew of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrived on the residence of senior TMC chief and MP Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday. According to the main points, the CBI crew gave summons to Banerjee in reference to the coal smuggling case. On Friday, the CBI had carried out searches at 13 areas in 4 districts of poll-bound West Bengal in reference to the coal pilferage rip-off, officers mentioned.

They mentioned the searches are happening in Purulia, Bankura, Pashchim Bardhaman and Kolkata.

The searches included premises of Amiya Steel Pvt Ltd in Kolkata and Bankura and that of Joydeb Mandal, the alleged deputy of the suspected kingpin of the racket Anup Manjhi.

The CBI had registered an FIR in November final 12 months towards Manjhi alias Lala, Eastern Coalfield Ltd General Managers Amit Kumar Dhar (of then Kunustoria space now Pandaveswar space) and Jayesh Chandra Rai (Kajor space) apart from ECL Chief of Security Tanmay Das, Area Security Inspector, Kunustoria Dhananjay Rai and SSI and safety in-charge Kajor space Debashish Mukherjee.
