The CBI’s Economic Offences Wing arrested Subhra Kundu, spouse of Rose Valley Group chairman Gautam Kundu, in Kolkata on Friday in reference to its probe into the multi-crore chit fund rip-off. The Enforcement Directorate, which had arrested Gautam in 2015, can be investigating the Rs 17,000-crore rip-off, mentioned to be the largest in Bengal.
According to sources, the CBI will take Subhra to a Bhubaneswar courtroom on Saturday for transit remand. The case was registered in Odisha. The CBI arrested Subhra, who was wished by the CBI and ED and didn’t reply to notices, after getting info that she was in her South Kolkata home.
The Rose Valley Group allegedly cheated hundreds of depositors, promising abnormally excessive returns on investments in its unlawful schemes. As per sources, Subhra is the director of two firms of Rose Valley Group. CBI officers mentioned she couldn’t give any passable reply to financial institution transactions by these two firms. She is alleged to have siphoned crores, which have been mentioned to be proceeds of crime, and managed the Rose Valley Group firms after Gautam’s arrest.
Several TMC leaders have been interrogated, arrested and jailed in reference to the case.
TMC chief Saugata Roy mentioned about Subhra’s arrest, “I don’t want to give it much importance. Why did it take them so long to arrest her when Gautam Kundu was arrested long back?”
