Chhattisgarh: Four of household killed as automobile plunges into water-filled quarry, woman swims to security

RAIGARH: Four members of a household have been killed after their automobile fell into an water-filled deserted stone quarry in Sarangarh-Bhilaigarh district of Chhattisgarh, police mentioned on Friday.

A 15-year-old woman from the household, who was additionally within the automobile, managed to get out of it and swim to security though her try to rescue her grandfather proved unsuccessful, they mentioned.

The incident came about close to Timarlaga village on Raigarh-Sarangarh highway when the victims have been returning after visiting a temple in adjoining Odisha, Sarangarh-Bhilaigarh Additional Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Nag mentioned.

Those killed have been recognized as Minu Patel, sarpanch of Timarlaga panchayat, her husband Mahendra and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, he mentioned.

As per the preliminary info, Mahendra, who was driving the automobile, misplaced management over the automobile whereas driving in reverse gear and it accidently plunged into the quarry, he mentioned.

“Patel’s daughter Roshni managed to come out of the car as the window of her side opened and swam to safety. She tried to rescue her grandfather after dragging him out of the car’s window, but he slipped into deep waters and drowned. Three others remained stuck inside the vehicle which was completely submerged in the water,” he mentioned.

Roshni rushed to a close-by petrol pump and knowledgeable in regards to the incident, following which the police personnel launched a rescue operation, he mentioned.
