Bird flu scare in Delhi after round 50 birds die in Dwarka, Mayur Vihar

Amid a fowl flu scare, round 50 birds, principally crows, have died within the nationwide capital over the past three to 4 days, officers mentioned on Friday.

“We obtained details about the dying of crows in Dwarka and Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and of some wild birds in Hastsal in West Delhi.

“However, it is yet to be ascertained if bird flu infection is the reason,” Dr Rakesh Singh from the animal husbandry unit of the Development Department mentioned.

Around 50 birds have died in these areas over the past three to 4 days, he mentioned.

 Officials from division collected samples from the three space and despatched them to a chosen laboratory in Jalandhar, Punjab on Friday, he mentioned.

“Four samples each have been collected from Hastsal and Mayur Vihar Phase 3, while one sample has been taken from Dwarka. We have been following the standard operating procedure,” Singh mentioned.

Besides, 100 extra samples of poultry birds have been collected from throughout town, he mentioned.

The Centre had on Wednesday mentioned that avian influenza or fowl flu outbreak has been reported at 12 epicentres in Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, whereas Haryana is on excessive alert attributable to uncommon mortality at poultry farms in Panchkula.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had mentioned on Thursday that there is no such thing as a case of fowl flu in Delhi but and requested officers to maintain a detailed watch on poultry birds coming in from neighbouring states to stop any an infection.
