Biennial polls to 4, by-poll to 1 seat in Bihar legislative council on Mar 31

PATNA: Biennial elections to 4 seats of the Bihar legislative council, and by-poll to a different constituency necessitated by the loss of life of the member, shall be held later this month, the Election Commission mentioned on Monday.

According to an EC launch, all of the 5 seats are of graduates and lecturers constituencies, for which notifications shall be issued on March 6 and submitting of nominations will happen on March 13.

Polling will happen on March 31, whereas counting of votes is scheduled for April 5.

Tenure of the 4 seats to which biennial elections are being held, was to run out in May.

Three of those are held by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and one by the BJP, now within the opposition.

The JD(U) members are Sanjeeva Shyam Singh (Gaya Teachers), Sanjeev Kumar Singh (Koshi Teachers) and Virendra Narayan Yadav (Saran Graduates).

The lone BJP MLC is Awadhesh Narain Singh (Gaya Graduates), who can also be a former chairman of the legislative council.

In addition, by-poll shall be held to Saran Teachers’ constituency, which has fallen vacant upon the loss of life of CPI MLC Kedar Nath Pandey.

The Upper House has a complete variety of 75 seats.

Its members are drawn from meeting, native our bodies, lecturers and graduates in addition to these nominated by the Governor upon advice of the state authorities.
