Avalanche warnings in 12 J-Ok districts

SRINAGAR:  Jammu and Kashmir authorities on Saturday issued an avalanche warning for 12 districts which witnessed average to heavy snowfall a day earlier than.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) issued a ‘excessive hazard’ avalanche warning for Kupwara district of north Kashmir and a ‘medium hazard’ warning for Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban and Reasi districts.

“Avalanche with high danger level is likely to occur above 2,000 metres of Kupwara district in the next 24 hours. Avalanche with medium danger level is likely to occur above 2,000 metres over Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban and Reasi districts in the next 24 hours,” SDMA officers mentioned.

They mentioned avalanche with low hazard stage is more likely to happen above 2,000 metres over Anantnag, Kulgam, and Rajouri districts within the subsequent 24 hours, they mentioned.

People dwelling in these areas are suggested to take precautions and keep away from venturing within the avalanche susceptible areas, officers mentioned.

Two labourers died on Thursday when an avalanche hit the work website of a building firm in Ganderbal district’s Sonamarg.

The greater reaches of Kashmir obtained average to heavy snowfall on Thursday and Friday.
