Assam govt’s eviction drive in Lumding recovers 1410 hectares of forest land

On Monday (November 8), the Assam authorities carried out an eviction drive within the Lumding reserve forest within the Hojai district of Assam.

Reportedly, the Lumding reserve forest includes an space of over 22,403 hectares, out of which 1,410 hectares was encroached upon by unlawful settlers. According to Hojai Divisional Forest Officer Gounadeep Das, about 3,000 individuals from 670 households have been dwelling on the encroached land. The unlawful settlers took up the occupation of agriculture and enterprise to maintain themselves.
