Anil Deshmukh resigns as Maharashtra Home Minister

Anil Deshmukh on Monday resigned as Maharashtra Home Minister after the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI probe into the corruption allegations levelled towards him by former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
NCP chief Nawab Malik stated, “After the Bombay High Court ordered CBI probe on the letter of former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, Deshmukh expressed desire to step down.” Deshmukh supplied the resignation letter to NCP supremo Sharad Pawar who gave consent. Deshmukh then met state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and handed over the letter.
In his resignation letter, Deshmukh has said that he doesn’t discover it morally right to proceed as the house minister after the Bombay High Court’s order.

Terming the case, involving allegations of corruption and misconduct towards Deshmukh, as ‘extraordinary and unprecedented’, the courtroom has requested the CBI to finish the probe inside 15 days, after which the CBI director is at liberty to take additional plan of action.
The BJP had been demanding his removing from the Maha Vikas Aghadi authorities after former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh dropped a letter bomb alleging that Deshmukh wished cops to gather Rs 100 crore month-to-month from bars and lodges in Mumbai. However, the federal government had maintained that such allegations have been a part of a “conspiracy” to defame it.
