80-year-old lady with hip implant ‘strip-searched’ at Guwahati airport

GUWAHATI: An 80-year-old wheelchair-bound lady from Nagaland was on Thursday allegedly strip-searched in the course of the safety verify on the airport right here, whereas the authorities mentioned she was requested to undergo a compulsory screening as a steel plate was connected to her hip bone.

A spokesperson of the Guwahati airport mentioned that the passenger with lowered mobility was requested to undergo the necessary safety screening however as she had a steel plate connected to her hip bone, the CISF staff requested her to go for additional checks.

“The authorities politely explained to the passenger about the mandatory security protocol and the matter was sorted out. The octogenarian passenger was initially irritated but later she understood the matter and left for her destination in a happy mood,” she mentioned.

“We place the safety and security of all our passengers as topmost priority”, the spokesperson added. Repeated calls by PTI to the CISF commandant posted on the airport weren’t answered.
