4 killed, 6 injured in landslides in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar

JAMMU: Four individuals, together with a policeman, had been killed and 6 injured after landslides struck close to the under-construction Ratle energy venture in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Saturday, officers mentioned.

An operation to seek out and rescue survivors trapped beneath the particles has concluded, they mentioned.

Labourers had been engaged on the development of a hyperlink street close to the Ratle energy venture website and a JCB machine was digging when a giant boulder rolled down, trapping the employees, Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Devansh Yadav instructed PTI.

As an operation workforce comprising six individuals rushed to the spot to rescue these trapped beneath the particles, one other landslide hit the world, burying extra individuals, the officers mentioned.

Yadav mentioned a rescue operation was launched instantly and 6 individuals, together with an assistant sub-inspector of police, had been pulled out from the particles and brought to the hospital.

Four individuals, together with a policeman and the JCB operator, had been killed within the incident. The JCB operator was recognized as Manoj Kumar, he mentioned.

Earlier, Yadav had mentioned 5 individuals had been trapped beneath the particles.

Of the six injured, the officers mentioned, three had been rushed to the Government Medical College in Doda, two to the Thathri hospital and one was despatched to Jammu.

Jitendra Singh, Union minister and MP from Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur, mentioned he spoke to Yadav after receiving a report on the landslide on the Ratle energy venture website.

“The JCB driver, unfortunately, died on the spot,” he mentioned.

“Further assistance, as required, (is) being provided. I am in constant touch with the district  administration,” he mentioned.

Taking to Twitter, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condoled the lack of lives within the incident.

“Deeply anguished by mishap at Drabshalla-Ratle hydroelectric project. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for early recovery of injured,” he mentioned.

The district administration has been directed to supply all mandatory help, he mentioned.
