Speaking to PTI, Tomar stated the nation’s agriculture sector carried out nicely throughout 2020 as foodgrains manufacturing rose to a document within the kharif season with farmers working laborious regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic and proving their relevance.
“This year, we hope better foodgrain production in the rabi season than last year (same season),” he stated.
For the 2020-21 crop yr, the Centre has set a goal of a document foodgrains output of 301 million tonne, out of which it expects 151.65 million tonne to come back from the rabi season.

Further, the minister stated progress to be made within the latest authorities initiatives together with two new farm legal guidelines on advertising and marketing, formation of 10,000 FPOs (Farmer Producers Organisations ), Rs 1 lakh crore Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, may even profit farmers and increase the sector.
“I hope farmers’ hard work and the Modi government’s pro-farmer policies will strengthen the agriculture sector. New reforms will also benefit the sector,” he added.
According to the official information, wheat sowing space has elevated by 4 per cent to date this rabi season to 325.35 lakh hectare, whereas pulses acreage grew 5 per cent to 154.80 lakh hectare on higher monsoon rains.
The paddy protection was down marginally to 14.83 lakh hectare to date this rabi season from 15.47 lakh hectare within the corresponding interval of the earlier yr.
The space below coarse cereals was down to date this rabi season at 45.12 lakh hectare as in comparison with 49.90 lakh hectare within the year-ago interval. However, the sowing space for oilseeds was up at 80.61 lakh hectare from 75.93 lakh hectare a yr in the past.
