2,000 km of rail community will likely be introduced beneath ‘Kavach’ in 2022-’23: Railway Minister

HYDERABAD: ‘Kavach’, the indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, will likely be deployed throughout all the rail community starting with 2,000 km within the 2022-23 fiscal and will likely be rolled out in 4,000 to five,000 km each subsequent 12 months, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Friday.

‘Kavach’, which accurately means armour, is being promoted by the Railways because the world’s most cost-effective computerized prepare collision safety system.

Announced within the 2022 Union Budget as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, 2,000 km of rail community is deliberate to be introduced beneath ‘Kavach’ for security and capability augmentation in 2022-23.

“In the budget, 2,000 km has been approved and in subsequent years ‘Kavach’ will be deployed in 4,000-5,000 km every year,” Vaishnaw advised reporters after inspecting the working of ‘Kavach’ between the Lingampalli-Vikarabad part of Secunderabad division, South Central Railway.

It is designed, developed and manufactured in India and will likely be deployed in India and exported to the world, he stated.

So far, ‘Kavach’ has been deployed on over 1,098 route km and 65 locos in ongoing initiatives of the South Central Railway.

‘Kavach’ is designed to carry a prepare to a halt routinely when it notices one other prepare on the identical line inside a prescribed distance.
