12 charged for arson throughout Muzaffarnagar riots acquitted

A neighborhood court docket in Muzaffarnagar has acquitted 12 individuals who have been charge-sheeted in two separate instances of theft and arson through the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. The court docket acquitted them both for lack of proof or variations within the statements of prosecution witnesses.
As many as 510 prison instances have been registered in reference to the riots and police filed chargesheets in 175 of them. The remaining instances have been both closed or expunged.
District Government Counsel (Muzaffarnagar) Rajeev Sharma mentioned that up to now, the courts have given verdicts in 20 instances. Barring in a single case, all of the accused in the remainder of the instances have been acquitted, Sharma added.
The solely case through which the accused have been convicted up to now is the one associated to the homicide of two youths — Sachin and Gaurav — at Kawal village that triggered the riots. Seven individuals have been given life imprisonment within the homicide case.
Last week, an area court docket allowed the UP authorities’s petition searching for route to withdraw a case lodged in opposition to a number of BJP leaders, together with three MLAs, for allegedly making inflammatory speeches in Muzaffarnagar.
