Jim Sheridan growing documentary collection on convicted fraudster Giovanni Di Stefano

LOS ANGELES: Oscar-nominated director Jim Sheridan, identified for movies like “My Left Foot” and “In the Name of the Father”, is engaged on a documentary collection on the convicted fraudster and pretend lawyer Giovanni Di Stefano.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the undertaking will likely be primarily based on “The Devil’s Advocate”, Giovanni Di Stefano’s biography, written by his son Michael Di Stefano.

Sheridan and his crew have acquired the unique rights to the ebook and are in negotiations for a restricted documentary collection with broadcasters and main platforms.

The working title of the collection is “The Devil’s Advocate – How to Win Fiends and Influence Despots”.

Giovanni Di Stefano has been concerned in authorized instances for high-profile infamous defendants worldwide, together with former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, late Serbian strongman Slobodan Milosevic, cult chief and serial killer Charles Manson.

He was arrested in 2011 and jailed for posing as a lawyer when it transpired that he had no {qualifications}.

Sheridan mentioned the story of Giovanni Di Stefano is “intriguing” and “truly unique”.

“The lead character is just unbelievable, and we’re delighted to have the unique co-operation of Giovanni, his household and his authorized crew to inform the story.

Giovanni will likely be launched later this 12 months from jail after an eight-year sentence for masquerading as a lawyer with out licence or {qualifications},” the filmmaker added.

Jezz Vernon, who serves as govt producer for the manufacturing banner Port Royal Media, mentioned the crew is worked up to assist Sheridan realise his imaginative and prescient of the “jaw dropping” topic materials.

“It’s a huge coup that Giovanni and his family have chosen to work exclusively with us. The project will go to full steam upon the release of Giovanni later this year where a crew will follow his next adventures and exploits on his return to Italy,” Vernon added.

Production on the collection is underway, having filmed with Giovanni Di Stefano’s spouse and sons in Belgrade and London, his mom in Italy and having interviewed the person himself within the UK jail.

The makers are eyeing a March 2022 launch for the present.
