FTII, NFAI host digital speak on Satyajit Ray’s centenary yr

“Satyajit Ray was very precise, meticulous and exact,” filmmaker, editor and screenwriter Aruna Raje Patil stated Saturday.
Hosting a digital occasion ‘Satyajit Ray Birth Centenary: A Tribute to The Cine Maestro’, to pay tributes to the grasp filmmaker, she added, “The kind of dedication Ray had was amazing. His love for people and humanity – there is so much you can learn from him. You feel so satisfied when you see films so perfectly made.”
The occasion, organised by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), is the second such digital talks hosted throughout the yearlong celebration of Ray’s delivery centenary.
The occasion was anchored by Patil together with Amit Tyagi, former Dean at FTII. Also on the panel had been eminent artists actor Sharmila Tagore, National Award-winning actors and filmmakers Aparna Sen and Anant Mahadevan, movie academician Ok Hariharan, movie critic Samik Bandopadhyay and movie producer and actor Mohan Agashe.
“The Indian cinema for me certainly became a different movement because of Ray (and others)… Every time I watch his films, I learn something new,” stated Mahadevan.
Sharing her expertise, Sen stated Ray taught her {that a} movie is just not the stringing up of completely taken pictures. “One has to create moments that the audience can take back with them,” she stated, including that by way of all of the little particulars, Ray taught her lots about filmmaking.
Talking in regards to the a number of aspects of Ray and his skills, Ok Hariharan stated, “He was a complete technician! He always said that he made films for the joy of cinema… He had very limited budget to work with and so he would take on multiple roles – editor, costume designing, workings with the camera… He would work for hours a day to perfect every aspect of the film… I am convinced that regional cinema came into existence because of him.”

Ray, Sharmila Tagore, stated confirmed one which they didn’t want extraordinary budgets to make movie. “You need extraordinary intuition, imagination and preparation. I think that’s a great learning.”

Samik Bandopadhyay, in the meantime, spoke at size about Ray’s love for music, cinema and his distinctive workouts. “He was not writing scripts to make films out of them, but to understand and learn the true structure of a film,” he defined.
Referring to his distinctive portrayal of easy matters, Amit Tyagi stated, “That is the magic of Ray!”
