Cannes 2022: Films by Alex Garland, Mia Hanson-Love a part of Director’s Fortnight lineup

NEW DELHI: Alex Garland-directed “Men” and Mia Hanson-Love’s “One Fine Morning” are among the many 23 function movies to be chosen for the Directors’ Fortnight part on the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

The competition organisers unveiled the lineup for the sidebar occasion on Tuesday in a press convention, and it additionally contains 9 films by first-time filmmakers and 11 movies by girls administrators.

Italian auteur Pietro Marcello’s “Scarlet” will open the part on May 18, whereas French director Nicolas Pariser-directed “The Green Perfume” will function the closing movie.

Garland’s “Men”, which is his third directorial efforts after critically-acclaimed films “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation”, will play as a Special Screening on the movie gala.

French director Hansen-Love returns to Cannes with “One Fine Morning”, starring Lea Seydoux, after she offered her final film “Bergman Island” on the 2021 version.

Also a part of the lineup is Paul Mescal and Emily Watson-starrer “God’s Creatures”, directed by Anna Rose Holmer and Saela Davis, and Mark Jenkin’s “Enys Men”.

Filmmaker Alice Winocour, finest recognized for her 2019 film “Proxima”, will present her new function “Paris Memories”.

The first-time filmmakers who will presenting their movies at Directors’ Fortnight embrace Fabian Hernandez, Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, Charlotte Le Bon, Elena Lopez Riera, Youssef Chebbi, Annie Ernaux & David Ernaux-Briot, Ali Cherri and Manuela Martelli.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Kelly Reichardt will obtain Director’s Fortnight’s honorary award Carrosse d’Or.

The filmmaker, recognized for films like “River of Grass”, “Old Joy”, “Wendy and Lucy” and “Certain Women”, will host a masterclass on the competition and likewise current her newest movie “Showing Up” in Competition.

The 54th version of Director’s Fortnight runs May 18 to 27.
