Cannes 2022: Deepika Padukone to be a part of Film Festival jury

MUMBAI: Actor Deepika Padukone might be part of the competitors jury on the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, the organisers stated.

French actor Vincent Lindon might be heading the jury on the seventy fifth version of the coveted competition, which is able to run from May 17-28, the official Twitter account of the competition introduced late Tuesday night.

Padukone is a part of the eight-member jury which is able to reward one of many 21 movies in competitors with the Palme d’Or through the closing ceremony on Saturday, May 28.

Other jury members embrace actor-filmmaker Rebecca Hall, Swedish actor Noomi Rapace, Italian actor-director Jasmine Trinca, acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, French filmmaker-actor Ladj Ly, filmmaker Jeff Nichols and director-screenwriter Joachim Trier from Norway.

In a press release, posted on the official web site of the competition, Lindon stated the jury “will strive to take the best possible care of the films of the future”.

“It is a good honour and supply of pleasure to be entrusted, within the midst of the tumult of all of the occasions we’re going by way of on the earth, with the luxurious, weighty process of chairing the Jury of the seventy fifth International Cannes Film Festival.

“With my jury, we will strive to take the best possible care of the films of the future, all of which carry the same secret hope of courage, loyalty, and freedom, with a mission to move the greatest number of women and men by speaking to them of their common wounds and joys. Culture helps the human soul to rise and hope for tomorrow,” Lindon stated.

Padukone, 36, was earlier the chairperson of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival for 2 years.

She discovered fame together with her 2007 movie “Om Shanti Om”, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, and later featured in a number of blockbusters and critically-acclaimed films like “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani”, “Chennai Express”, “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela”, “Bajirao Mastani”, “Padmaavat” and “Piku”.

The actor, who was most not too long ago seen in Shakun Batra’s “Gehraiyaan”, made her Hollywood debut with the 2017 actioner “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage”, fronted by Vin Diesel.

Padukone has a busy slate of initiatives which incorporates Shah Rukh Khan-led “Pathan”, “Fighter” with Hrithik Roshan, an untitled film with Prabhas and the Hindi remake of the Hollywood film “The Intern”.
