Deadline for submitting Income Tax returns for evaluation yr 2021-22 prolonged until December 31

Citing difficulties reported by the taxpayers and different stakeholders, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Thursday determined to additional prolong the due dates for submitting of Income Tax Returns and varied reviews of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22. The deadline for earnings tax returns for people whose accounts are to not be audited has been prolonged for the second time this yr to December 31 from the sooner prolonged deadline of September 30.
“The due date of furnishing of Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which was 31st July, 2021 under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act, as extended to 30th September, 2021 vide Circular No.9/2021 dated 20.05.2021, is hereby further extended to 31st December, 2021,” the Finance Ministry mentioned in an announcement.
The due date of furnishing of report of audit underneath any provision of the Income-tax Act for the earlier yr 2020-21 which was earlier prolonged to November 30 from October 31 has now been additional prolonged to January 15, 2022, it mentioned.
The due date of furnishing a report from an accountant by individuals getting into into worldwide transactions or specified home transactions underneath part 92E of the Income-tax Act for the earlier yr 2020-21 has been prolonged to January 31 subsequent yr. It was earlier prolonged to November 30 from October 31. The due date of furnishing of belated/revised earnings tax return for the Assessment Year 2021-22 has now been prolonged to March 31 subsequent yr from January 31, 2022.

The earnings tax division on Wednesday had mentioned various technical points on the brand new ITR portal are being progressively addressed and 1.19 crore ITRs for 2020-21 fiscal yr have been filed. “It is reiterated that the Department is continuously engaged with Infosys to ensure a smooth filing experience to taxpayers,” the CBDT had mentioned on Wednesday.

The tax division had earlier prolonged the deadline for submitting the equalisation levy assertion in Form-1 for the Financial Year 2020-21 until December 31, towards the unique due date of June 30. The quarterly assertion in Form 15CC to be furnished by authorised sellers in respect of remittances made for June and September quarter, can now be filed by November 30 and December 31 respectively. The unique due date for submitting this assertion was July 15 and October 15 respectively.

The Finance Ministry had on August 23 “summoned” Infosys CEO Salil Parekh to clarify the problems leading to disruption of the portal developed by the software program main. In the assembly with Parekh on August 23, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had expressed “deep disappointment” over persisting glitches for greater than two months after portal launch and has given a deadline of September 15 to Infosys to resolve the problems.
In 2019, Infosys was awarded a contract to develop the next-generation earnings tax submitting system to scale back processing time for returns from 63 days to someday and expedite refunds. Till June 2021, the federal government has paid Rs 164.5 crore to Infosys for growing the portal.
