U.S. Vice President JD Vance has become the subject of intense online gossip concerning his marriage, fueled by a viral video clip and his public acknowledgments of an interfaith union. These events have given rise to unsubstantiated rumors of a divorce and significant marital discord.
The recent wave of speculation originated after Vance attended a TPUSA student event at the University of Mississippi. During the event, Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, introduced Vance. A brief hug exchanged between them was captured and subsequently shared widely, leading to a surge of entirely unfounded rumors about an affair and marital troubles.
There is no credible evidence to substantiate any of the claims circulating on social media regarding the hug or Vance’s marital fidelity. The footage depicts a commonplace public interaction that has been misconstrued.
Adding context to the online narrative were Vance’s earlier remarks about his marriage to Usha Chilukuri Vance, who practices Hinduism. During a Q&A session, Vance discussed his interfaith relationship, clarifying that his wife was raised Hindu but was never particularly devout. Vance himself converted to Catholicism in 2019. He revealed that they met in college as non-believers and are raising their three children as Catholics, with Usha frequently attending Mass alongside them.
In response to the growing rumors, Vice President Vance issued a clear statement on X (formerly Twitter). He expressed immense praise for his wife, referring to her as a significant blessing and acknowledging her supportive role in his spiritual journey. Vance confirmed that his wife is not Christian and does not plan to convert but voiced his personal hope for her eventual acceptance of his faith. He decisively reaffirmed his commitment to his wife, emphasizing their enduring love and open communication about faith and life, thereby refuting all rumors of a separation.
