US sends nuclear-powered missile submarine to Middle East

The nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine USS Florida is working throughout the Middle East, said the US Navy.

By Reuters: The US Navy said on Saturday a nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine was working throughout the Middle East in help of the Bahrain-based US Fifth Fleet.

The USS Florida entered the world on Thursday and commenced transiting the Suez Canal on Friday, Commander Timothy Hawkins said in a press launch.

“It is capable of carrying up to 154 Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles and is deployed to the US 5th Fleet to help ensure regional maritime security and stability,” Hawkins said.
