A 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook Turkey’s Balikesir province on Sunday, with the epicenter in Sındırgı. The tremors were felt in Istanbul, nearly 200 kilometers away. Subsequent to the initial quake, a number of aftershocks occurred. The Turkish disaster management agency announced the activation of the Turkish Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) and deployed personnel and vehicles from various provincial directorates to support search and rescue operations. They also advised citizens to stay clear of damaged buildings. Local reports indicated that a building collapsed in Sındırgı.
