Following the deadly mass shooting at a Sydney Hanukkah gathering, President Donald Trump has urged all nations to unite against the “evil forces of radical Islamic terrorism.” The attack, which left 15 people dead, has prompted a firm stance from the US President on confronting extremist threats.
Speaking at a Hanukkah celebration at the White House, President Trump sent “love and prayers” to Australia and condemned the “horrific and anti-semitic terrorist attack.” He emphasized that a collective global effort is crucial to combat radical Islamic terrorism, highlighting the need for nations to stand together. The violence was perpetrated by a father and son targeting a Jewish festival.
The shooting occurred on Sunday at Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah observance, when Sajid Akram and his son Naveed opened fire. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia called the event an “antisemitic terrorist act” that struck at the heart of the country. This incident marks the most severe mass shooting in Australia in approximately 30 years, a development that stands out in a nation with famously strict gun laws.
Police forces reported that one of the gunmen was killed during the incident, and his son sustained injuries and is currently being treated. Authorities have noted that one of the attackers was known to security agencies, but there were no prior indications of an organized plot. The victims’ ages ranged widely, from 10 to 87, with many other individuals hospitalized, some in critical condition.
