Former US President Donald Trump sent a message emphasizing the high stakes of his upcoming face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The meeting, scheduled for August 15 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, is poised to influence the ongoing war in Ukraine and impact European security. Trump’s post on Truth Social, which read “High Stakes!”, preceded his trip to the summit. Before the meeting, Trump conveyed his confidence that Putin is prepared to negotiate peace. During an interview, when asked about potential incentives for ending the war, Trump stated these matters would be discussed during their meeting. He emphasized the importance of the meeting for the US and Russia, as well as the opportunity to save lives. Beyond the Alaska meeting, Trump plans to hold a follow-up meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and potentially European leaders, which he believes could be even more important than the initial discussions.
