Roei Shalev, who survived the Supernova music festival massacre by Hamas militants two years ago, has died by suicide. His death comes two years after his girlfriend, Mapal Adam, was tragically killed in the same attack. Shalev, 25, was discovered in a burning car near Netanya, with evidence suggesting he intentionally set the vehicle ablaze after filling it with fuel.
His final Instagram post detailed an overwhelming internal struggle and a deep sense of hopelessness. Shalev wrote that he could no longer endure the intense emotional pain caused by the death of his girlfriend, Mapal Adam. “I’m burning inside, and I can’t contain it anymore,” he expressed, signaling his deep despair.
The personal tragedy for Shalev was amplified by the broader devastation of the October 7th attacks. Mapal Adam’s sister recounted her terrifying last messages, describing the horror of the “massacre.” The trauma extended to Shalev’s family, as his mother also died by suicide shortly after the festival attack, a consequence of overwhelming grief and trauma.
The October 7th Hamas invasion of southern Israel resulted in widespread death and destruction, impacting communities and attendees of the music festival. The ongoing conflict, including the fate of remaining hostages, continues to be a focal point of international concern and Israeli policy.
