A significant meeting took place in Delhi where External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with a special envoy delegation from the Republic of Korea, headed by former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum. The discussions centered on augmenting cooperation across key sectors like economy, technology, defence, maritime security, and people-to-people exchanges. The aim is to boost collaboration in areas such as green hydrogen, shipbuilding, investment, semiconductors, and regional security, especially in the Indo-Pacific region. This meeting followed earlier interactions, including a meeting between Indian Ambassador to South Korea Amit Kumar and Kim Boo-kyum. The South Korean delegation included Representative Lee Kai Ho and Democratic Party of Korea’s Supreme Council Member Song Sun-ho. Both sides discussed the multifaceted Special Strategic Partnership and opportunities to strengthen ties in peace, prosperity, and regional connectivity. This visit followed a recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Canada, where they committed to working together in trade, investment, green energy, and emerging technology sectors. The initiatives like Korea Plus and the establishment of a Korea-India SME and Start-up Centre in Gurugram further support the growing economic relationship between the two countries, with South Korea’s FDI in India reaching USD 8.02 billion by June 2023.
