Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been re-arrested following his failed attempt to impose martial law last year. The former president, 65, will not attend his trial due to health issues, according to reports. He is being held at the Seoul Detention Centre and faces potential life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted of insurrection.
Simultaneously, Yoon’s wife, Kim Keon-hee, is also under investigation for various charges, including stock manipulation, election interference, and bribery. These investigations involve alleged meddling in candidate nominations. Yoon was previously impeached and faced an initial arrest but was later released. His actions caused a political crisis when he attempted to undermine the civilian government. Charges include fabricating a martial law declaration, attempting to deny his intentions, and deleting call records.
