Paul was born in Jalandhar. He moved to the UK in 1960 to seek treatment for his young daughter, who was suffering from cancer. Despite the medical efforts, his daughter passed away at the age of four. Following this loss, he established the Ambika Paul Foundation, a charitable trust that has donated millions of dollars to promote the welfare of children and young people around the world through education and health initiatives. After losing his young daughter, Paul also lost his son Angad in 2015 and his wife Aruna in 2022. Following these family losses, he initiated several institutions in their names to continue charitable work and help others.
