A senseless act of dangerous driving has resulted in the tragic death of an 8-month pregnant Indian woman and her unborn baby in Sydney. The victim, Samanvitha Dhareshwar, 33, was on a routine walk with her family when the devastating crash occurred.
The incident took place on George Street, Hornsby. A Kia Carnival had stopped to allow Dhareshwar and her family to cross a pathway. Simultaneously, a BMW, reportedly speeding, struck the Kia from behind. The force of this collision propelled the Kia forward, tragically hitting Dhareshwar near the car park entrance.
Emergency services rushed Dhareshwar to Westmead Hospital, but tragically, doctors were unable to save her or her baby. The driver of the BMW, a 19-year-old provisional license holder, has been arrested and faces charges including dangerous driving causing death and causing the loss of a foetus. The investigation is ongoing, and charges under Zoe’s Law, which specifically addresses the loss of unborn children due to traffic offenses, may be pursued.
