Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly stated that the military operations in Gaza will persist until the complete defeat of Hamas is secured, and all hostages are returned. His declaration comes amid mounting global pressure to end the conflict and a rise in internal protests within Israel. Netanyahu declared his unwavering dedication to achieving the total defeat of Hamas. He stressed that Israel will not stop until this objective is achieved. Speaking before a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu clarified that the goal is to ensure Gaza does not represent a future security risk to Israel. The Israeli military has taken control of roughly 70% of the Gaza Strip since the conflict erupted on October 7, 2023. These statements were made in the wake of stalled indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas regarding the exchange of prisoners and a ceasefire agreement. In addition, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant echoed Netanyahu’s sentiments, stating that the war’s aim is to eliminate Hamas and secure the return of all hostages. He emphasized that both goals must be pursued together, notwithstanding any disagreements within the government on extending the war and occupying all of Gaza. Gallant further asserted that all necessary measures would be taken to defeat Hamas, and that the military leadership must always abide by political decisions.
