The International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) has welcomed Nepal as its newest member. Nepal has formally joined the alliance by signing the framework agreement. The IBCA was established with the aim of promoting international cooperation for the conservation of big cats, including tigers, leopards, and snow leopards.
With snow leopards, tigers, and common leopards, Nepal’s membership is expected to strengthen global cooperation in protecting these species. The IBCA has commended the Nepal government for this significant move. Nepal’s tiger population has seen remarkable growth, nearly tripling to 355 by 2022, compared to 121 in 2009. India initiated the IBCA on April 9, 2023, in Mysore, with a focus on the global conservation of big cats.
