The Department of Defence announced that President Trump is deploying an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to assist ICE and federal law enforcement officers. This new deployment is in addition to the 2,000 troops ordered on Saturday amid protests over immigration arrests. Sean Parnell, Assistant to the Secretary of Defence for Public Affairs, stated the mobilization on X. California has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, contesting the legality of the troop deployments. In response to the lawsuit, a White House spokesperson has criticized Governor Gavin Newsom. Attorney General Rob Bonta has criticized the order. Bonta has said the order is unlawful. The protests were triggered by ICE raids, which resulted in the arrests of undocumented immigrants.
